The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan, along with the City of Weyburn and C. Anderson Holdings Inc., today celebrated the official opening of eight rental units of the South Pointe rental project in Weyburn.Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Minister Ralph Goodale, on behalf of Families, Children and Social Development Minister and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Jean-Yves Duclos, along with Health Minister and Weyburn-Big Muddy MLA Dustin Duncan, on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) Donna Harpauer, and Weyburn Mayor Debra Button, made the announcement today.
“I want to congratulate everyone involved in the South Pointe housing development, along with the funding partners – CMHC and the Province of Saskatchewan – who have helped to bring more affordable rental housing to Weyburn,” Goodale said. “In the coming weeks and months, we look forward to working with Canadians, housing stakeholders and our partners in provinces, territories and municipalities as we restore a constructive role for the federal government in supporting affordable housing.”

"Partnerships are important to help bring projects like this forward, and to keep Saskatchewan strong. We sincerely thank everyone involved with this project, and will continue to work with our partners to create more housing opportunities in Weyburn and in other Saskatchewan communities.”

- Located at #4 and #8 – 8th Avenue South, South Pointe is an eight-unit housing development with four of the units subsidized for moderate-income renters. Each of the apartments has two bedrooms and is approximately 1,000 square feet (92.9 square meters).
- The federal and provincial governments, through CMHC and SHC, are jointly contributing approximately $160,000 under the Canada-Saskatchewan Investment in Affordable Housing (2014-2019) Agreement Capital Rent Subsidy program.
- The Government of Saskatchewan, through SHC, is also providing $40,000 under the Rental Construction Incentive to match the $40,000 contribution from the City of Weyburn for the eight-unit project.
- The funding balance is being provided by C. Anderson Holdings Ltd. in the form of cash, land equity, and financing.
