The new Regina-area Martha Cachene’s Home for Youth celebrated its grand opening today. The home, which is operated by 4 Directions Child and Family Services Inc. will provide a safe, warm and caring environment for up to six young people in care.“Our Government is expanding services and supports for vulnerable children and youth by developing group home spaces for young people that are safe, provide security and are a part of our community,” Regina Qu'Appelle MLA Laura Ross, said on behalf of Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer. “We are doing this by working hand-in-hand with our valuable and experienced community partners and stakeholders such as 4 Directions Child and Family Services.”
The Government of Saskatchewan is providing almost $900,000 in annualized funding to 4 Directions Child and Family Services Inc. to operate the new home in addition to the $200,000 in one-time capital costs for the project. The new group home has been in operation since December 2015, and is designed to accommodate both male and female youth aged 12-15 years.
“We are pleased to open this new group home for young people in the Regina area,” 4 Directions Child and Family Services Inc. Board Chair Derald Dubois said. “For young people in need of a safe, secure and caring home, being a part of their community and culture with access to educational, sports and recreational opportunities can make a world of difference in providing them with the supports they need to realize a better future.”
4 Directions Child and Family Services Inc. has been providing stabilization services for youth since October 2000. They presently operate two 10 bed homes located on Muskowekwan First Nation.
