Social Services Cheques Available for Pickup August 30 and 31

Released on August 26, 2016

Due to the possibility of a Canadian Union of Postal Workers strike, we have made arrangements to ensure there is no payment disruption to our Social Services clients.  Clients and their trustees will be able to visit temporary distribution centres to pick up payments on Tuesday, August 30, and Wednesday, August 31, if they receive monthly cheques for the following programs:
  • Saskatchewan Assistance Program (SAP);
  • Transitional Employment Allowance (TEA);
  • Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability (SAID); and
  • Cognitive Disability and Approved Private Service Home level of care.

Locations of temporary distribution centres and ministry service centres are listed on the Government of Saskatchewan website at www.saskatchewan.ca/postal-strike.

Clients are asked to bring photo ID or two other forms of identification when picking up cheques.  Agency staff who are trustees for clients must produce both photo ID and a letter on agency letterhead authorizing them to pick up the cheques.

The authorization letter should list the names of the individuals for whom the agency is trustee.  Approved Private Service Home proprietors who are trustees for clients must produce photo ID that matches the address on the cheques.  Ministry clients and service providers who still receive cheques by mail are asked to consider switching to direct deposit to avoid these types of disruptions in the future.

Please note that certain programs do not have a direct deposit option at this time, including the Approved Private Service Home program and Cognitive Disability Strategy.  Media are asked to respect the privacy of social assistance recipients and not enter or film outside cheque pickup locations.
