Two Companies Plead Guilty to Occupational Health and Safety Violations

Released on April 27, 2016

Brad J. Dunlop pleaded guilty and was fined $2,100 in Estevan Provincial Court on April 18, 2016.  Charges followed a March 5, 2014 incident when a worker's thumb was injured when it was caught in a drilling rig.

The Yorkton employer was charged with failure to take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of other workers who may be affected by his acts or omissions under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.

In an unrelated court case, SE Ventures, operating as ITComputes, of Carnduff, was charged with failure to ensure, insofar as is reasonably practicable, that the employer’s workers are not exposed to harassment with respect to any matter of circumstance arising out of the workers’ employment.  The company pleaded guilty and was fined $2,100 in Estevan Provincial Court on April 18, 2016.

On December 20, 2014, OHS conducted a complaint-based inspection after a worker discovered a hidden video camera within close proximity to the toilet in the staff washroom.

The Saskatchewan Employment Act protects workers from bullying and harassment in the workplace.
