Government Invests in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park

Released on September 15, 2015

Approximately $475,000 will be invested to upgrade the exterior of the pool building at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.

“The pool building at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is one of the largest and most used in our park system,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Mark Docherty said.  “Upgrading this building will enhance the visitor experience for years to come.”

The swimming pool building was built in 1985 and houses the customer service area, the change rooms, mechanical equipment and whirlpool.

The completion of this project will extend the life of the current pool building by approximately 25 years.  Funding for capital projects and upgrades in provincial parks is budgeted to be $14.6 million in 2015-16.

This funding builds on government’s commitment to invest an additional $10 million on expansion and growth opportunities in provincial parks for a total investment of more than $53 million since 2012.

Some of the projects that have been undertaken since 2012 include; two brand new campgrounds, one each in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park and Blackstrap Provincial Park; campsite electrical expansion and upgrades to nearly every park in the system; the replacement of visitor reception centres and campground service centres and many other necessary infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, landfills and road upgrades and repairs.
