St. Brieux Celebrates the Start of School Expansion and Renovation Project

Released on September 14, 2015

Today Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, dignitaries and representatives from the Horizon School Division to celebrate the start of an expansion and renovation project at St. Brieux School.

The Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $8 million toward the project.  Horizon School Division’s Board of Education has also approved approximately $1.35 million for additional upgrades.

“Our government is pleased that this important project has started for the growing community of St. Brieux,” Morgan said.  “The success of each and every Saskatchewan student is a high priority for our government and we know that investing in education and projects like this will have a positive impact on our students for years to come.”

Once completed, the school will offer students a spacious learning environment and more programming, including three new classrooms, Industrial Arts lab, Practical and Applied Arts space, cooking and clothing lab, new washrooms, and the expansion of the library and main entrance.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to partner with the Ministry of Education on this exciting project for the community of St. Brieux School,” Horizon School Division Board of Education Chairperson Jim Hack said.  “With these renovations, we can ensure that we are providing the best possible learning environment for our students and staff.”

“I want to acknowledge past principal, Mr. Ray Emde, who spent more than 10 years working with the Division, local board and school community council to get this project underway during a time when enrolment has increased from 250 to approximately 300 students,” St. Brieux School Principal Christy Baumann said.  “The staff and students at St. Brieux School are very excited for this project and would like to thank the Ministry of Education, past Humboldt Rural School Division, and present Horizon School Division for their support in making this a reality.”

The project is expected to be completed in June 2017.

Since 2007, the government has committed approximately $966 million toward 65 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
