Reminder: Nominations for Province's Highest Honour Close November 1

Released on October 21, 2015

Residents have until Sunday, November 1 to submit nominations for the next recipients of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit – the province’s highest honour – and can now watch an online video showing the most recent investiture ceremony.

“The Saskatchewan Order of Merit celebrates the extraordinary achievements of the people of our province,” Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield said.  “I hope everyone will consider nominating an outstanding Saskatchewan person to receive our highest honour in time for the November 1 deadline.  Please have a look at the video of the ceremony that took place in May of 2015, when some truly remarkable individuals were honoured.”

The Saskatchewan Order of Merit was established in 1985 and recognizes excellence, achievement and contributions to the social, cultural and economic well-being of the province.

To date, 209 people have been invested to the Order.

Any current or former long-term resident of the province who is a Canadian citizen may be nominated.  Groups and organizations are ineligible, along with sitting members of Parliament, the Legislature or judiciary.  Selected recipients will be invested into the Order at a ceremony with the Lieutenant Governor in Regina in 2016.

An online video of the most recent investiture ceremony – marking the Order’s 30th anniversary – can be seen on YouTube at https://youtu.be/rSFuW4MQTeo.

Additional information, nomination forms and a list of previous recipients can be found at www.saskatchewan.ca/honoursawards by clicking the link to the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.
