Saskatchewan Celebrates Students Success and Teacher Commitment

Released on October 16, 2015

Education Minister Don Morgan has proclaimed October 18-24, 2015, as Education Week in Saskatchewan.  This year’s theme, Celebrating Each Student, is an opportunity to acknowledge student success and the hard work of teachers across the province to see them succeed.

“There are so many great programs and activities taking place in our schools, it’s important to take time to highlight the successes that teachers and students are achieving,” Morgan said.  “I invite everyone to celebrate the Education Week in Saskatchewan.”

Students, teachers, librarians and volunteers are excited about what’s going on in the classroom, and about the impact of new programs and initiatives like Saskatchewan Reads, Help Me Tell My Story and Following Their Voices.

Saskatchewan Reads was created by the Provincial Reading Team to provide support to teachers as they ensure their students are successful in reading.  Help Me Tell My Story uses digital storybooks to give students the ability to read and develop oral language skills.  Following Their Voices is an initiative to improve the graduation rate of First Nations and Métis students by building strong relationships between students and their teachers.

“Boards of education are proud of the partnerships and collaboration in the education sector – all of us striving for the best possible educational opportunities and outcomes for all students in our province,” Saskatchewan School Boards Association President Connie Bailey said.

For more than two decades, the education sector has devoted one week every year to recognize the many achievements that occur each day within our classrooms and the dedication of education professionals who build the foundation for Saskatchewan’s growth and prosperity by providing quality education to all its children.

Education Week 2015 will be marked by different events and activities hosted in various schools, school divisions and communities across Saskatchewan to highlight the accomplishments of students and honour the work and dedication of education professionals.  Success stories from students and teachers will be shared throughout the week on the Student First Blog at www.studentfirstsk.com/blog.
