In preparation for the 125th anniversary of Government House in 2016 and the 25th season of the Government House Historical Society’s Victorian Teas, the public is being asked to help select a special “signature” tea to mark these milestones.
Through a partnership between the Government House Historical Society, Government House and local tea merchant Cuppa T’, three unique specialty teas have been blended to honour this National Historic Site.
“To prepare for the Government House 125th anniversary in 2016, we wanted to create a fun program where we could engage the public and promote the story of Government House, a National Historic Site and Provincial Heritage Property,” Government House Executive Director Carrie Ross said. “This search for a signature tea to mark the anniversary complements our planning wonderfully.”
During the month of October, the public is invited to visit Government House to sample the three blends and cast a vote on which should be the 125th anniversary tea. Once the winning tea blend is selected, it will be packaged and sold through the Government House Historical Society and at Cuppa T’ at 2732 - 13th Avenue in Regina starting December 5, 2015 and throughout the anniversary year in 2016.
All proceeds from the sale of the tea will come back to the Government House Historical Society to support their on-going efforts to promote and preserve Government House.
Government House is located at 4607 Dewdney Avenue, Regina and open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is free and donations are accepted.
