Government of Saskatchewan Celebrates International Education Week

Released on November 17, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to celebrate International Education Week from November 16-20, 2015.  International Education Week is celebrated in more than 100 countries and is dedicated to generating awareness and understanding of international education and the benefits it provides to institutions, students, and our country.

“This special week highlights the importance of international education and the unique opportunity it provides for Saskatchewan post-secondary students to connect with other parts of the world,” Advanced Education Minister Scott Moe said.  “It encourages our students to study abroad, and welcomes international students who bring diverse perspectives that enrich our classrooms and our communities.”

The Saskatchewan Post-Secondary International Education Strategy has three goals.  These include:
  • increasing the number of international students in Saskatchewan;
  • increasing the number of Saskatchewan students studying abroad; and
  • increasing the number and value of international research partnerships.
“International education will aid in the continued growth of our province by helping our students develop new skills and encouraging international students to make Saskatchewan their home,” Moe said.

Currently more than 4,800 international students from more than 120 countries are studying in Saskatchewan.  There are 20 post-secondary institutions currently designated to host international students.  The top three countries for those students are China, Nigeria and India.  There are also more than 900 Saskatchewan university students studying abroad.
