Stories of Courage - Remembering Saskatchewan Veterans On Screen

Released on November 10, 2015

In honour of all Saskatchewan’s veterans, the eight-part video series Stories of Courage: Saskatchewan Second World War Veterans Remember will be rebroadcast in its entirety this Remembrance Day on City Saskatchewan.  The broadcast is part of a touring program of films on the First and Second World Wars from the collection of the Yorkton Film Festival (YFF).

“We take time each November to reflect and thank the generations, that preceded many of us, for their courage and sacrifice,” Provincial Military Liaison and Wood River MLA D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said.  “With programs like this, the stories will live on and ensure that future generations are aware of Canadian history.”

“We feel it is important to share these stories of courage and the first-hand experiences of war,” City Saskatchewan General Manager Joanne McDonald said.  “We are proud to be broadcasting these in conjunction with the YFF’s Voices of Courage initiative.”

Voices of Courage is a travelling program commemorating Canada’s involvement in both the First and Second World Wars.  Funded by Heritage Canada, it features films submitted to the Yorkton Film Festival.

“We are so pleased that City Saskatchewan is running Stories of Courage on Remembrance Day as part of the YFF project Voices of Courage,” Yorkton Film Festival Executive Director Randy Goulden said.  “It’s a great opportunity to highlight Canada’s contributions and sacrifices.”

In addition to the City Saskatchewan broadcasts, Voices of Courage will be screened in communities around Saskatchewan. Interprovincially, the program will be screened at the Calgary War Museum and at the Winnipeg Public Library.  The program will also include National Film Board productions Trenches and Frontlines.

On City Saskatchewan, the Remembrance Day Special Presentation of the entire series will start at 12:30 pm and run to 2:45 pm.  Starting November 18, the series will begin airing weekly at 1 p.m.  City Saskatchewan is channel 19/319 on SaskTel MaxTV and channel 12 on Access.  Check your local listings for channel number information or visit www.CityTV.com/Saskatchewan.
