Ministry of Education Proclaims Financial Literacy Day

Preparing Saskatchewan students for financial success is key to developing our future workforce.  Education Minister Don Morgan has proclaimed today, November 10, 2015 as Financial Literacy Day in Saskatchewan.

“Our government wants all Saskatchewan students to succeed in school and beyond,” Morgan said.  “That’s why it’s important to provide them with a strong understanding of financial management before they graduate high school.”

“Today’s proclamation of Financial Literacy Day in Saskatchewan highlights the strong support for strengthening the financial literacy of the people of Saskatchewan especially young people,” Canada’s Financial Literacy Leader Jane Rooney said, who is speaking to educators at the Saskatchewan School Board’s Association 100th Anniversary Annual General Assembly today in Saskatoon.  “I’m thrilled to see so many organizations and groups engaged in providing financial literacy programs in Saskatchewan and am pleased to help raise awareness of these efforts during Financial Literacy Month.”

Financial Literacy Day in Saskatchewan is part of Financial Literacy Month which is a national movement with a goal to help Canadians better manage their finances and to provide the knowledge, skills and confidence to improve their financial health.

“The FCAA is proud to support Financial Literacy Day,” Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan Chair and CEO Roger Sobotkiewicz said.  “We encourage Saskatchewan consumers to learn about their financial options and get the most out of their hard-earned money.”

“Financial literacy is important for all sectors of our economy including employees, customers and businesses,” Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce CEO Steve McLellan said.  “The Chamber network is committed to enhanced financial knowledge for the betterment of our entire province."

In Saskatchewan, students are already learning valuable lessons on financial literacy thanks to the leadership of teachers across the province, and also through partnerships with Junior Achievement and Saskatchewan Credit Unions.
