Saskatchewan Public Works Professionals Recognized

Released on May 15, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to join with the Saskatchewan Public Works Association in recognizing May 17 to 23, 2015, as National Public Works Week.  This is the 55th year of celebration for National Public Works Week in North America.

“I’m pleased to recognize the many public works professionals across Saskatchewan that are responsible for providing the public services that are so crucial to our province and its people,” Central Services Minister Jennifer Campeau said.  “Their work plays a vital role in our daily lives and is one of the reasons Saskatchewan is such a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

The theme for this year’s celebrations is ‘‘Community Begins Here’’, which reflects the essential role public works services play in enhancing the quality of life for all Saskatchewan and Canadian people.

“This year's theme speaks to the vital nature of public works in providing the basis for communities to thrive and to the importance of public works services in supporting our everyday quality of life,” Saskatchewan Public Works Association President Andrew Stevenson said.  “From providing potable water, collection of wastewater, snow removal, recycling, street maintenance, garbage collection, replacement of infrastructure, to clearing the way after a disaster, public works is one of our most essential services.”

Since its beginning in 1960, agencies, municipalities, and regions have used public works week to educate and inform the public about the essential role that public works plays in the quality of their community life.  This week also promotes the choice of public works as a career path and recognizing those who currently serve in these crucial public roles.
