30th Investiture Ceremony Tonight for Saskatchewan's Highest Honour

Released on May 13, 2015

Tonight, Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield will invest nine recipients with the Saskatchewan Order of Merit – the province’s highest honour – which marks its 30th anniversary this year.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be a part of tonight’s investiture ceremony as the Saskatchewan Order of Merit marks its 30th anniversary, and to recognize a group of remarkable individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to our province,” Solomon Schofield said.  “The recipients are heroes, and exemplify the vision and determination to devote their lives to the service of others.”

The 2014-15 recipients to be invested with the order tonight are:
  • Mr. Jack Brodsky, Saskatoon;
  • The Reverend Lorne Calvert, Saskatoon;
  • Dr. Wilfred (Wilf) Keller, Saskatoon;
  • William (Bill) McKnight, P.C., LL.D., Saskatoon;
  • Ms. Yvette Moore, Moose Jaw;
  • Maestro Victor Sawa, Regina;
  • Ms. Ellen Schmeiser, Q.C., Saskatoon;
  • Dr. David E. Smith, O.C., F.R.S.C., Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., previously from Saskatoon and Regina; and
  • Mr. Henry Woolf, LL.D., Saskatoon.
The 2014 and 2015 investitures have been merged into one ceremony this year.  Anne Luke, LL.D., of Regina will not be able to attend.  She will be invested with the order at a later date.

Established in 1985, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit takes precedence over all other provincial honours and awards.  The lieutenant governor is the Chancellor of the Order.
