Province Invests $443,000 to Improve Accessibility at Campion College

Released on May 5, 2015

Today, Advanced Education Minister Kevin Doherty announced $443,000 to improve accessibility at Campion College for people with disabilities.  Funding is provided to support phase one of Campion College’s Building Enhancement Project.

“Our government is pleased to support this project through the Preventative Maintenance and Renewal Fund,” Advanced Education Minister Kevin Doherty said.  “We understand the importance of providing barrier-free learning facilities to ensure students have the ability to fully participate in their programs.”

Preventative maintenance and renewal funding is provided to help to ensure post-secondary facilities meet all regulatory requirements, particularly as they relate to providing a safe, healthy and barrier-free learning environment.

“The Government of Saskatchewan’s support of this important initiative shows our shared commitment to ensuring safe and accessible learning environments for all students,” Campion College President John Meehan said.

Phase one of the building project begins this spring.

The 2015-16 Saskatchewan Budget provides $23.6 million for preventative maintenance and renewal, a 14.6 per cent increase over last year, and nearly 650 per cent increase from 2007.

Campion College is located on the University of Regina campus.  It is the only Jesuit undergraduate college in Canada and offers academic programs and services in partnership with the University of Regina, Luther College and First Nations University of Canada.
