Province Proclaims Women Entrepreneurs Week in Saskatchewan
Released on May 4, 2015
The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to proclaim May 4 to 10 Women Entrepreneurs Week in the province. The week provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate Saskatchewan’s many successful women entrepreneurs.
In 2014, there were 35,100 self-employed women in the province – a number that continues to grow each year. The professional services, wholesale, retail and hospitality industries in particular have benefitted greatly from the contributions of women entrepreneurs in the province.
“Saskatchewan’s women entrepreneurs and the businesses they establish play a huge role in our communities and our economy; they bring innovative products and services to the market, generate revenue and create jobs,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. “Thanks to organizations like Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan, more women can access the supports and services they need to realize their entrepreneurial dreams.”
Since its inception 20 years ago, Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan has been supporting women by providing business advice and loans to women who want to start or expand a business in the province.
“Women entrepreneurs have been an integral part of Saskatchewan’s record prosperity over the last few years,” Minister responsible for the Status of Women Donna Harpauer said. “I want to thank Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan for the support they provide for women-owned businesses in our province that are helping to keep Saskatchewan strong.”
“Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan has disbursed more than $32.3 million in loans to entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan, serving as a testimonial that women entrepreneurs are increasingly shaping and influencing the economic vibrancy of our province,” Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan CEO Praba Vaidyanathan said. “We would like to thank the Government of Saskatchewan for proclaiming the week of May 4 as Women Entrepreneurs Week as it recognizes the impact and contributions of our women entrepreneurs and also encourages investment and growth in business in our province.”
