Governments of Canada And Saskatchewan Invest In Municipal Infrastructure for Milestone, Bulyea And Carievale

Released on March 26, 2015

Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification Michelle Rempel and Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter announced today that the Town of Milestone and Villages of Bulyea and Carievale will benefit from upgraded municipal infrastructure, thanks to joint federal and provincial funding through the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund (BCF-CC).

“Our government is committed to helping communities meet their infrastructure needs allowing them to continue to grow and thrive,” said Rempel.  “The investments announced today not only demonstrate this commitment but also help to create jobs and economic growth while improving water infrastructure for communities in southeast Saskatchewan.”

“Investing in infrastructure is a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” Reiter said.  “We are pleased to contribute more than $250,000 through the Building Canada Fund to upgrade the water supply and systems for residents in Bulyea, Carievale and Milestone.”

The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan will each be investing $219,841 in the Town of Milestone’s water improvement project, which will see the installation of a reverse osmosis treatment system to increase capacity to meet demand and to better meet water quality guidelines.  Milestone will contribute the remaining balance of the $659,523 project.

The Village of Bulyea is receiving $19,833 each from the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan to build a larger holding cistern, which will double the storage capacity for its treated water and allow it to meet consumption demands.  The remaining balance of this $59,500 project will be provided by Bulyea.

The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are each providing $11,000 to the Village of Carievale to build a water storage reservoir to ensure an adequate water supply for residents and adequate storage during an emergency.  Carievale will contribute the remaining balance of the $33,000 project.

Since 2007, more than 150 municipal infrastructure projects have been funded by the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan under BCF-CC, benefitting thousands of Saskatchewan residents and their communities.  These three projects are being funded using savings realized through previous BCF-CC projects coming in under budget, allowing dollars to be recommitted to additional initiatives.
