A public inquest into the death of Lee Allen Bonneau is scheduled for two weeks, beginning April 6, 2015, at the Court of Queen’s Bench in Regina.Bonneau, a six year old child was in the care of the Ministry of Social Services and living with his foster parents at the time of his death on August 22, 2013. He was found badly injured on the Kahkewistahaw First Nation and later died.
Section 19 of The Coroners Act, 1999, states that the Chief Coroner may direct an inquest be held into the death of any person.
The Office of the Chief Coroner is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths. The purpose of an inquest is to establish who died, when and where that person died and the medical cause and manner of death. The coroner’s jury can also make recommendations to prevent future deaths.
Coroner Alma Wiebe, Q.C., of Saskatoon will preside at the inquest.
