New Projects Supported Through the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation

Through the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation, the Government of Saskatchewan is investing nearly $250,000 in 32 heritage conservation projects across the province.

“History is an irreplaceable thing and we must do all we can to preserve it,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Mark Docherty said.  “The grants offered through the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation allow people to conserve the historic sites and buildings which have helped shape our province into the wonderful place it is today.”

This year’s grant recipients span Saskatchewan and include projects such as the Gravelbourg Court House, the Melfort Post Office, Star City Library and Regina’s St. Matthew’s Anglican Church.

Established in 1991, the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation has invested more than $9 million in 1,224 heritage conservation projects across the province.  The foundation's latest grant intake had three times as many applications as last year, meaning more conservation and greater investment in Saskatchewan’s vibrant past.  The foundation currently offers three conservation-minded programs that protect and restore Saskatchewan’s public and private heritage assets:
  • The Built Heritage Grant – provides funding for municipally or provincially-designated heritage properties;
  • The One-Time Grant for Non-Designated Commercial Heritage Property –  offers funding to help conserve heritage properties without official designation status; and
  • The On-site Archaeology or Paleontology Research Grant – funds field-based archaeological and paleontological projects that enhance our understanding of the province.
The next application deadline for these programs is October 1, 2015.

The foundation also offers a Community Engagement Grant which provides support to heritage-related events of provincial or national importance.  These grants are adjudicated on a rolling basis.
