Minister responsible for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs Jim Reiter is encouraging all Saskatchewan residents to participate in National Aboriginal Day community celebrations taking place on June 21 and throughout the month.
“National Aboriginal Day gives us an opportunity to recognize the many contributions Aboriginal people made to our province’s past and, this year more than ever, to acknowledge the role they will play in Saskatchewan’s future,” Reiter said.
Now in its 20th year, National Aboriginal Day honours the culture and contributions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people across Canada. The day traditionally falls on June 21, which is the first day of summer and the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.
The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to support and sponsor a number of events in Moose Jaw, Sakimay First Nation, North Battleford and Regina.
