Government Improving Visitor Experience in Moose Mountain Provincial Park

Released on July 14, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing nearly $700,000 in a new beach service centre at Moose Mountain Provincial Park.  Work has already begun on the new service centre, which will provide public washroom and shower facilities.  It will also include a small visitor programming area.

“Moose Mountain Provincial Park is an oasis in southeastern Saskatchewan,” Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Mark Docherty said.  “This park is very popular with campers, cottagers and people from surrounding communities.  This new service centre will make their experience at Moose Mountain better.”

The current building is more than 45 years old and does not contain shower or accessible washroom facilities.  The new facility will provide safe, clean and accessible public washroom and shower facilities.  The programming space will provide space and storage for interpretive and waterfront activities.

A public tender was issued for this project and Logan Stevens Construction (2000) Ltd. of Yorkton was the successful bidder.  The work on this new service centre has already begun and is projected to be complete by the summer of 2016.

The total investment in Moose Mountain Provincial Park since 2008-09 is more than $3 million. Capital projects like this new service centre improve the overall visitor experience at the park.  Funding for capital projects and upgrades in provincial parks will total $14.6 million in 2015-16.

This funding meets the government’s commitment to invest an additional $10 million on expansion and growth opportunities in provincial parks over four years, for a total investment of more than $53 million in this time period.  Details on further projects will be announced throughout the summer.
