Weekly Construction Update
Motorists can expect a smoother ride as 12 kilometres of the eastbound lanes on Highway 1 between the junction of Highway 39 and Pense will be repaved this month. This project also includes the lengthening of a turning lane at the Pense access.
This section of highway sees well over 11,000 cars a day so drivers are encouraged to plan ahead as traffic will be reduced to one lane throughout construction. Work is scheduled to start next week and finish up at the end of July or early August.
Ten kilometres of grading is also complete on Highway 51 west of Kerrobert and two small grading projects have wrapped up on Highway 15 east of Kenaston and near Punnichy.
With several forest fires burning in northern Saskatchewan and reduced visibility due to smoke, people are reminded to check out the Highway Hotline at www.saskatchewan.ca/live/transportation/highway-hotline for the latest road information. The status of ferries, barges and other road activities can also be found on the Highway Hotline.
Road information is also available by calling 306-787-7623 in Regina, 306-933-8333 in Saskatoon, the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD, and toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623.
The weekly construction update provides Saskatchewan residents with the latest details on projects underway to help plan safe and efficient travel throughout the summer and fall.
Drivers are reminded to slow to 60 km/hr when passing highway workers and equipment and observe the posted speed limits in construction zones.
The Government of Saskatchewan has invested a record $5.2 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008.
