Moose Jaw Police Service Targeted Policing Initiatives Receive $330,000

The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to ensure the safety of Moose Jaw communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants.  This provincial contribution of $330,000 will fund three Moose Jaw Police Service positions in 2015-16.

“Our government is focused on community safety,” Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence said on behalf of Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell.  “This grant and the positions it funds provides the support needed to those working to protect Moose Jaw communities and families.”

This funding supports three position within the Moose Jaw Police Service dedicated to Serious Crime and Enhanced Community Policing.

“We appreciate the province’s commitment to policing in Moose Jaw,” Moose Jaw Mayor and Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners Chair Deb Higgins said.

“Our partnership with the province and Ministry of Corrections and Policing, through the Municipal Police Grants, continues to bring great value to our community,” Moose Jaw Police Service Chief Rick Bourassa said.  “These funded positions provide us with an enhanced ability to analyze the factors contributing to crime and disorder, and put effective evidence-based prevention and enforcement strategies in place.”

Since 1998, the provincial government has provided funds annually to urban police services across the province to support 125 municipal police positions and policing initiatives.  This grant fulfills the government’s commitment for 120 new police officers and is part of the ministry’s ongoing commitment to supporting policing services within the province’s municipalities.
