Government Makes Significant Investment in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park

Released on August 24, 2015

More than $800,000 will be invested to upgrade the wastewater system at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park.  This upgrade follows a brand-new campground development that opened in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park earlier this year that added 68 full-service sites to the park.

“The people of Saskatchewan love spending time in our provincial parks, and it is our privilege to take care of them,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Mark Docherty said.  “Infrastructure improvements like this, ensure our parks will be enjoyed for many years to come.”

Improvements to the wastewater system upgrade at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park will enhance services for visitors.  The project will see the addition of a new, 3-bay sewage disposal station, which will alleviate traffic congestion concerns and make sewage disposal more convenient for campers.  Additionally, two deteriorating sewage lift stations will be replaced by a larger, more efficient one to meet increasing demand.

Funding for capital projects and upgrades in provincial parks will total $14.6 million in 2015-16.  This funding meets the government’s commitment to invest an additional $10 million on expansion and growth opportunities in provincial parks for a total investment of more than $53 million since 2012.

Some of the projects that have been undertaken since 2012 include two brand new campgrounds, one each in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park and Blackstrap Provincial Park; campsite electrical expansion and upgrades to nearly every park in the system; the replacement of visitor reception centres and campground service centres and many other necessary infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, landfills and road upgrades and repairs.
