Government Improving Camper Experience in Buffalo Pound Provincial Park

Released on August 11, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing more than $350,000 in campsite electrical expansion and upgrading at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park.  The projected total investment in Buffalo Pound Provincial Park since 2008-09 is more than $5 million.

“Buffalo Pound Provincial Park is a very popular camping destination,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Mark Docherty said.  “This electrical expansion and upgrade work will improve the already exceptional visitor experience at this park.”

There are 50 campsites in Maple Vale campground that will receive upgraded service.  This will help to ensure safe and reliable electric service in those campsites.  In addition, 54 campsites in Maple Vale, Elm View and Lakeside campgrounds will receive new electric service.  The expansion and upgrades will provide the option for 15 or 30 amp service at each campsite, with a portion also providing 50 amp service to accommodate larger recreational vehicles.

A public tender was issued for this project and Livewire Electric Ltd. of Shellbrook was the successful bidder.  The work on this project will begin this fall and is projected to be complete in time for next summer.

Funding for capital projects and upgrades in provincial parks will total $14.6 million in 2015-16.  This funding meets the government’s commitment to invest an additional $10 million on expansion and growth opportunities in provincial parks for a total investment of more than $53 million since 2012.
