Weekly Construction Update
This week crews will begin repaving 15 kilometres of the westbound lanes on Highway 1 through Swift Current.
Highway 1 through Swift Current carries more than 8,000 vehicles a day, the busiest section of the Trans-Canada Highway in the province west of Moose Jaw. The repaving project, expected to be finished in the fall, will improve the quality of the driving surface resulting in a safer and smoother ride for everyone.
There is currently more than $16 million invested in active projects on Highway 1 across the province. In addition to work around Swift Current maintenance work is starting this week near Chaplin and Balgonie. Some of the projects occur on sections that service 10,000 vehicles a day.
Drivers are reminded to obey the posted speed limits in construction zones and slow to 60 km/hr when passing highway workers and equipment.
Additional travel information about emergency road closures, the status of ferries, barges and other road activities can also be found on the Highway Hotline at www.saskatchewan.ca/live/transportation/highway-hotline.
