Government Provides Funding to Help Northern Families

Released on April 24, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan is providing more than $393,000 to help the North West Friendship Centre Inc. support vulnerable families in Meadow Lake.

“We are proud to continue assisting this important organization in Meadow Lake,” Minister responsible for Immigration, Jobs, Skills, and Training Jeremy Harrison said on behalf of Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer.  “Thanks to wonderful partners like the Northwest Friendship Centre, we are making a real difference in the lives of Saskatchewan people, and I want to thank them for their selfless dedication to the citizens in Meadow Lake.”

The Ministry of Social Services provides $307,000 to the North West Friendship Centre for Diversion and Parent Aid services.  The goal of this program is to provide in-home support and education to parents whose children are at risk of coming into care of the Ministry of Social Services.  The Friendship Centre is also provided with funding for family supports in Meadow Lake.

The Ministry of Justice continues to support victims of interpersonal violence and abuse in Meadow Lake with funding of more than $86,000 to support family violence outreach services.  The funding also helps build capacity for communities in northwest Saskatchewan through awareness and education about interpersonal violence and abuse.

“Thanks to the generous support of this government, we are able to help local families who are facing some serious challenges,” North West Friendship Centre Inc. Executive Director Gladys Joseph said.  “We also want to thank the province for working with us in a spirit of true partnership to make life better for countless Meadow Lake families.”
