The Government of Saskatchewan has reaffirmed its commitment to vulnerable individuals and families in Moose Jaw by renewing funding agreements with Moose Jaw Family Services and Moose Jaw Association for Community Living.
The announcement was made today by Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence, on behalf of Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer, at an event held in Moose Jaw. As part of the province’s 2015-16 Budget commitment, Moose Jaw Family Services will receive $112,000 (*$621,000) in funding, and Moose Jaw Association for Community Living Inc. will receive $104,000.
*The amounts indicate above are, in some cases, part of a larger contract commitment the Government of Saskatchewan has with the CBO.
“Our government is proud to support community-based organizations as they help Saskatchewan people in need,” Lawrence said. “This week we are celebrating the work of many CBOs across the province, such as Moose Jaw Family Services and Moose Jaw Association for Community Living who are dedicated to providing effective, efficient programs and services that will maintain the safety and well-being of the people they serve. We are pleased to continue these partnerships as we work together to keep Saskatchewan strong.”
“Moose Jaw Family Services Inc. thanks the Government of Saskatchewan for their continued support to our agency,” Moose Jaw Family Services Board Chair Dale Duckworth said. “Through collaboration, compassion, respect and good stewardship we will continue to supportively respond to people by offering our many programs.”
“We would like to thank the government for giving us this opportunity to strengthen our community by putting supports in place that will help to include people with cognitive disabilities in all aspects of community life,” Moose Jaw Association for Community Living Inc. President Nytosha Kober said.
The Ministry of Social Services provides funding to and works collaboratively with more than 200 CBOs across Saskatchewan and has more than 700 CBO contract agreements. Allocations to these CBOs are reflected in the total funding to Saskatchewan CBOs, announced as part of the 2015-16 provincial budget. An additional $2.3 million in funding for 2015-16 brings the overall general increases provided to CBOs for salary and operating costs to almost $50 million since 2007.
Following input received from community organizations at the 2008 CBO summits, many of the province's human-services CBOs now operate with the security of multi-year funding agreements.
