Province Supports North Battleford Families

Released on April 9, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $2.1 million to support North Battleford and area families in need.

Funding is provided through both the Ministry of Social Services and the Ministry of Justice.  The Ministry of Justice continues its support of programming for victims of interpersonal violence and abuse in the Battlefords.  In 2015-16, the ministry will provide funding of $932,760 to the following community based organizations (CBOs): Catholic Family Services of the Battlefords, the Battlefords Interval House Society and the Battlefords’ & Area Sexual Assault Centre.  Across the province, the Ministry of Justice’s Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Program is providing more than $11 million toward interpersonal violence programming this fiscal year.

The Ministry of Justice also supports a range of programs in the Battlefords to assist victims of crime involved with the criminal justice process.

“Our government is pleased to reaffirm its funding commitment to our North Battleford CBOs,” The Battlefords MLA Herb Cox said on behalf of Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer and Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant.  “These wonderful organizations help individuals and families during difficult times and play a vital role in serving those in need in the Battlefords area.”

The Ministry of Social Services also supports Catholic and Family Services of the Battlefords.  The organization will receive $1.17 million in annual funding. $184,000 is to provide assistance through the use of a Diversion Program.  The goal of this program is to provide in-home support and education to parents whose children are at risk of coming into the ministry’s care.

“We thank the Government of Saskatchewan for their continued support and confidence in the services and supports our organization provides to the families we serve,” Catholic Family Services of the Battlefords Inc. Board President Ken Loehndorf said.  “We are excited to continue helping individuals and families build on their strengths, and find positive ways to understand and act when faced with challenges in their lives, whatever they might be.”
