Donation Made to Celebrate Royal Visit

Released on September 19, 2014

Today, Premier Brad Wall announced that a $5,000 donation would be made on behalf of the province to the Saskatchewan Division of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in honour of His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex’s visit.

“This gift from the people of Saskatchewan will have a direct and positive impact on our youth,” Wall said.  “His Royal Highness is a strong champion of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and all that it stands for in terms of personal growth and development for our young people.  We’re very proud to support its ongoing work right here in Saskatchewan.”

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a self-development program for those between the ages of 14-24 and encourages young people to be active, engage in new activities and set and achieve goals in four areas: community service, physical recreation, skill development and adventurous journey.

“We are extremely grateful to receive this donation from the people of Saskatchewan in honour of His Royal Highness’ visit this week,” Saskatchewan Division of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award President Jim Deane said.  “This gift will help us with our ongoing work with youth, who are the future of our province.”
