First Ever Movie Night at Government House

Released on September 5, 2014

Government House is hosting its first outdoor movie night Sunday, September 7 in the Edwardian Gardens.

Government House staff chose three potential films earlier in the summer and put them to a public vote through Facebook and Twitter. The clear winner: Mary Poppins.

“Government House is a wonderful tourism attraction that continually seeks out fresh, innovative ways to engage visitors,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Mark Docherty said.  “Our province is growing; new residents are moving in.  This movie night is the perfect event to introduce new families to one of our capital city’s destinations.”

“Government House is a heritage property that deserves to be experienced,” Government House Executive Director Carrie Ross said.  “Our Edwardian Gardens are a beautiful outdoor space.  We want to use them as often as we can which is why we’re thrilled to hold an outdoor movie night to help close off a great summer season at Government House.”

Admission to the movie night is free.  Popcorn and other snacks will be available for purchase.  Movie-themed programming starts at 6 p.m.  Kids will be able to build kites and create chalk drawings.  The movie will start at dusk - likely around 7:45 p.m.  Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets.

For more information on this and other events happening at Government House, visit www.governmenthouse.gov.sk.ca, or follow Government House on Facebook at Facebook.com/governmenthouse and Twitter at @Govt_House.  Admission to Government House is always free.  Free Wi-Fi is available on site.

During the fall, Government House is open six days a week, from Tuesday until Sunday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
