Major Renovation Completed for Lumsden Elementary School

Released on October 30, 2014

Today Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, teachers, members of the community and representatives from the Prairie Valley School Division to celebrate the completion of a major expansion of Lumsden Elementary School.  The project was completed in September 2014.  The government contributed $10.5 million.

“The expanded Lumsden Elementary School provides this growing community with an improved school and learning opportunities that better meet the needs of students and their families,” Morgan said.  “Investing in this school also ensures that we put the student first by providing them with the space they need to learn and be successful.”

The upgraded facility is home to a larger gym and new gym services area, new 51 space licensed child care centre, a performing arts centre, an expanded science lab, and a common area that will serve as a gathering place for students.

“We are grateful to the Government of Saskatchewan for providing the necessary funding for Prairie Valley School Division to renovate and expand Lumsden Elementary School,” Prairie Valley School Division Board of Education Chair, Janet Kotylak said.  “The Board of Education is strongly committed to investing in our infrastructure to provide students with quality learning environments.  The school will serve the community for many years to come, and we thank everyone who worked so hard to make it a reality.”

"Wow this space is so great – so open and awesome!” Grade 6 student Carter Kolody said.  “It feels like a home.”

Since November 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $700 million toward 47 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
