The Province of Saskatchewan today announced an investment of $100,000 to support small infrastructure projects in seven francophone communities around the province that will help repair, renovate or expand and equip facilities and locations where the French language is spoken and culture practiced.
“Saskatchewan’s increasing population and expanding economy are both strengthened by a strong, growing francophone community,” Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Wayne Elhard said. “As newcomers from other provinces and countries are welcomed by Fransaskois and Fransaskoise, both will gather to share their French culture in the very community spaces these grants help maintain.”
This year’s projects approved for funding are:
- Conseil des écoles fransaskoises on behalf of l’école de Bellegarde – $42,210 for the replacement of play structure sets used by the school and the community.
- Association communautaire fransaskoise de Gravelbourg Inc. – $22,930 needed to reshingle the roof, replace exterior walls and painting.
- Centre francophone des Battleford – $1,200 for painting and to change the carpeting in their new location.
- Centre francophone BDS Inc. (St. Isidore de Bellevue, Domremy, St. Louis) – $15,000 for significant renovations to upgrade and maintain the community centre.
- Association communautaire fransaskoise de Moose Jaw – $6,485 will go toward renovations, including replacing a veranda and to purchase audio-visual equipment.
- Association canadienne-française de Regina – $5,564 for improvements to the Carrefour Horizon community centre.
- Association Jeunesse Fransaskoise – $6,610 to help increase capacities and animation services in schools and francophone organizations.
This is the fourth year targeted funds have been distributed through the Francophone Community Infrastructure Fund. In total, $400,000 has been invested in support of language and culture.
