Get Ready for a Spooktacular Night of Fun at Government House

Released on October 28, 2014

Government House is hosting its third annual Halloween party, “Bump in the Night,” Thursday, October 30 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  Admission is free for this family event.  Guests can enjoy a magician in the ballroom, embark on a scavenger hunt in the museum and participate in a variety of Victorian-themed crafts including building a Halloween mask.

“A festive event like this one is a perfect opportunity for guests to experience Government House in a fun, new way,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Mark Docherty said.  “It’s a chance for parents, grandparents and children to spend time together learning about our province’s past and what it was like to experience Halloween as a Victorian.  Every year this party attracts hundreds of people to Government House and we’re confident this year will be no different.”

Guests are encouraged to dress in their best Halloween costumes.  Everyone who is dressed up will be entered to win a prize - a bag full of goodies.

Government House, a place some say is haunted, is an ideal setting for a family Halloween party.  The Provincial Heritage Property was built in 1891 and once served as the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of the Northwest Territories.  Although it’s no longer a home, Government House still serves as the Lieutenant Governor’s office today.  It is also a popular tourism attraction offering programs and tours to guests year round.
