Province Supports New Seniors Housing Project in Mossbank

Released on October 10, 2014

Through the combined efforts of the Government of Saskatchewan and Furrows and Faith Retirement Co-operative Limited, a new 12-unit assisted living residence for seniors officially opened today in Mossbank.

The province, through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, contributed $250,000 to the project from the provincial Summit Action Fund.  This fund, with a $6 million investment by the province, was created to help increase housing supply across the province through innovation in the housing sector.

“This residence is more than bricks and mortar,” Wood River MLA Yogi Huyghebaert said on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation Donna Harpauer.  “This beautiful residence is a place where seniors can live in comfort with the supports they require, surrounded by friends and family.  We are proud to work with the Furrows and Faith Retirement Co-operative and the community of Mossbank to ensure the housing needs of seniors are being met, which is a key element of the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth.”

“Our new personal care home is a place where people can be part of more than a home, but be part of a community,” Furrows and Faith Retirement Co-operative Ltd. Chairperson Bev Singbeil said.  “We are situated in a location that allows people to meet new friends, be active with old friends and family, and remain as independent as possible while still having the care and support needed.  We are a non-profit community service Co-operative that believes we can provide a kind of care and experience that is second to none!  We are grateful to the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation for their financial input, as well as all the local businesses and private donations we have received to make the Furrows and Faith Retirement Villa a reality.”

Located at 406 Main Street in Mossbank, Furrows and Faith Retirement Villa consists of 12 units designed to provide assisted living for up to 19 residents.  The residents will receive affordable rent, nutritious meals, social and spiritual stimulation and help with their daily physical needs.

Furrows and Faith Retirement Co-operative Limited was created by a group of Mossbank citizens who saw a need for a housing alternative of assisted living that is available to senior citizens from the area or those who wanted to move back to the community.
