Lloydminster Company and Three Individuals Fined for Fall Protection Violations

Released on November 27, 2014

Frontier Glass & Door (Lloydminster) Ltd. pleaded guilty to one count under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation and was fined $2,800 in Lloydminster Provincial Court on November 13, 2014.

Frontier Glass & Door (Lloydminster) Ltd. pleaded guilty to contravening clause 253(2)(b) of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996 for failing to ensure that a portable ladder was secured against accidental movement and did thereby cause injury to a worker and was fined $2,000 with a $800 surcharge.  Two other charges were withdrawn.

Charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on October 16, 2013, where a worker who was working on a ladder slipped and fell, sustaining serious injuries.

In another case, Chris Davidson of Canora and Kyle Shumay and Austin Boychuk , both of Yorkton, pleaded guilty to one count under OHS legislation in Yorkton Provincial Court on November 10, 2014.

Each pleaded guilty to contravening section 116 of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996  for failing to use a fall protection system at a temporary or permanent work area where a worker may fall three metres or more.  Each was fined $60 with a $40 surcharge.

The charges stem from a complaint based inspection on a Yorkton worksite on August 1, 2012, where an Occupational Health Officer observed individuals working on a roof without utilizing a fall protection system.

The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety works to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses by ensuring compliance with fair and balanced occupational health and safety standards through education, inspections, and where appropriate, prosecution.
