Residents of Prince Albert and surrounding area gathered today to celebrate the grand opening of the Pineview Terrace, a new long-term care facility in the city.
“This is an exciting step forward on our journey to achieve better health, better care and better value for people of Prince Albert and area,” Rural and Remote Health Minister Greg Ottenbreit said. “The new facility provides a safe and home-like environment for residents. It also helps health professionals to better provide patient-and-family-centred care.”
The new facility accommodates five houses, offering 60 single room long-term care beds – an increase of 24 beds compared to the old facility. Each house has a separate entrance and a patio. Two houses are dedicated for dementia care.
“The additional long-term care beds reduce the number of people waiting for long-term care placement, and help to address the need for capacity in Prince Albert and area – and keep long-term care residents closer to home,” Prince Albert Parkland Regional Health Authority Chair Brenda Abrametz said. “This new home also ensures our employees, physicians and volunteers have the best possible environment for providing quality, safe and compassionate care for the people we serve.”
“This is a good day for the city,” Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne said. “Pineview Terrace will assist the community in fulfilling the demand for long-term care.”
The provincial government has contributed $18.2 million toward the project, which represents 80 per cent of total project costs. Local funding covers the remaining 20 per cent.
To date, approximately $187 million has been invested toward the replacement of 13 long-term care facilities across the province.
