Province Celebrates Contributions of Staff in Saskatchewan’s Community Based Organizations

Released on November 6, 2014

In order to recognize and celebrate the valuable contributions of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) across this province, the Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed November 6, 2014, as Community Based Organization Workers Appreciation Day.

"These workers deserve our utmost respect and recognition,” Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said.  “CBOs are an integral part of the province's human-service support system, and we are pleased to recognize the ongoing efforts of CBO staff to help our most vulnerable citizens.  In proclaiming this special day, we aim to raise awareness about the important role of CBOs and their staff across the province.”

CBOs play a vital role in the province and they support and strengthen the Government of Saskatchewan’s services to citizens.  The Ministry of Social Services works in partnership with more than 200 CBOs who, through 2,400 front line staff, provide services to Saskatchewan's most vulnerable citizens, such as children, people living with disabilities, the homeless, those struggling with addictions, families in crisis and women experiencing abuse.  These workers provide hope, dignity and compassion to some of the most vulnerable citizens in the province.

Emergency shelters, group homes, day cares, crisis units, and many other much needed programs and services across Saskatchewan are staffed by CBO workers.  The Ministry of Social Services supports these CBOs annually with an investment of more than $235 million.
