Traffic Flowing Again on Highway 3 West of Shellbrook

Released on May 29, 2014

Weekly Construction Update

With the installation of a new, larger culvert near Mont Nebo, motorists can once again travel on Highway 3 west of Shellbrook.

The road had been closed since a culvert washout left it impassable in late April.

“We recognize the importance of this road for commuters, local industry, health care and tourism, and that’s why we worked to get this road open as soon as possible,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said.  “From the tender process to the manufacture of the culverts, we took every effort to speed the repairs, and I am happy to report that the installation was completed a week earlier than initially planned.  We thank area residents and other drivers for their patience during construction.”

Speed is currently reduced to 60 km/hr at the site of the completed culvert repair.  Traffic will be accommodated during the installation of a second culvert in the area in early June.  Drivers are reminded to slow to 60 km/hr in all highway work zones.

New projects underway in the province this week include repaving on Highway 1 near Whitewood, and grading projects on Highway 2 near Meacham and Highway 27 near Vonda.

The weekly construction update provides Saskatchewan residents with the latest details on projects underway to help plan safe and efficient travel throughout the summer and fall.
