Prince Albert Individual Fined for Safety Violations

Released on May 27, 2014

Chris Webb of Prince Albert pleaded guilty to three counts under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $720 in Prince Albert Provincial Court on May 12, 2014.

Mr. Webb pleaded guilty to:
  • contravening subsection 91(1) of the regulations (failure to provide and/or require a worker to use appropriate protective headwear) and was fined $100 with a $50 surcharge;
  • contravening clause 116(2)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that a worker used a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more) and was fined $300 with a $120 surcharge; and
  • contravening clause 253(2)(b) of the regulations (failure to ensure that a ladder in use by workers was secured against accidental movement during use) and was fined $100 with a $50 surcharge.
 The conviction relates to an inspection at a Prince Albert worksite which occurred on August 25, 2011.  An Occupational Health Officer observed a worker on the roof of a structure who was working in violation of occupational health and safety legislation.  Two other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety recommends prosecutions where individuals or companies refuse to comply with the provisions of legislation or where significant risk of injury to workers is present as a result of non-compliance.
