2014 Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship Winners Announced

Released on May 13, 2014

$10,000 in Scholarships Awarded to Four Students

Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart announced the winners of the 2014 Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship.

“Saskatchewan’s agriculture industry is growing and with this growth comes many job opportunities for youth,” Stewart said.  “As we continue to meet a growing global demand for food, we need bright young minds, passionate about agriculture, to drive the industry forward.”

Josee Monvoisin of Gravelbourg has been awarded the grand prize scholarship of $4,000 for her video submission on how Saskatchewan producers are growing food in a safe and healthy manner.  In the fall, Monvoisin will begin a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness at the University of Saskatchewan.

“At the end of the day I’m choosing to further my education in agriculture because I’m passionate about finding new and innovative solutions to better farming and ranching practices in Saskatchewan,” Monvoisin said.

Runner-up scholarships of $2,000 were awarded to Sara Grassick of Prince Albert, Hannah Friesen of Laird and Miranda Heidecker of Middle Lake.

“I want to congratulate the winners and all of the applicants for showing a true passion for agriculture and for their willingness to speak up about why it is one of the best industries in Saskatchewan,” Stewart said.  “I wish each of them a successful and rewarding career as they work toward a future in agriculture.”

This year’s applicants were required to produce a three-minute creative video or write a well-researched, fact-based 1,000 word essay that showcased one of four themes: agriculture solutions for a growing world, farmers and ranchers as environmental stewards, safe food that is responsibly produced or agriculture as a modern, forward looking industry.
