Fifteen community airports in Saskatchewan will see a total of $1.4 million in repairs and upgrades through this year’s Community Airport Partnership (CAP) program.
For the fourth consecutive year, the province will provide $700,000 to the 50 per cent cost-shared program, which is designed to help offset costs for airports that do not receive scheduled passenger service.
“The government is pleased to renew its commitment to aviation, which plays such a critical role in Saskatchewan’s growing economy,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. “Airports connect communities across our large province, benefit regional industry and provide landing space for air ambulances.”
The approved funding amounts and planned projects for 15 community airports are:
- Assiniboia, $10,000 for an engineering services report;
- Carlyle, $95,000 for runway extension and lighting;
- Esterhazy, $37,470 for runway lighting, crack sealing and a cement beacon pole;
- Humboldt, $30,000 for crack repair and asphalt patching;

Community airports were able to apply for funding for projects supporting economic development, general access to surrounding communities, air ambulances, commercial operations and aviation safety.
“We appreciate the government’s continued support of aviation through the Community Airport Partnership program,” Saskatchewan Aviation Council President Janet Keim said. “This program provides the funds needed to ensure air transport in Saskatchewan is carried out as safely and efficiently as possible.”
Since the program began in 2007, the government has invested $4.5 million in community airports.
