Northern Students Travel to the Capital for Youth Mentorship Program

High school students from Air Ronge, Buffalo Narrows, Canoe Narrows, Cumberland House, Fond Du Lac and Pinehouse Lake will be in Regina May 4-7 to take part in the 2014 Youth Mentorship Program.

“Saskatchewan is a great place to live, work, play and build a life,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Kevin Doherty said.  “The Youth Mentorship Program shows students the opportunities available to them right here in the province.  I hope the young people who attend see that Saskatchewan, in addition to providing exciting job and educational opportunities, offers a vibrant quality of life.”

Students will learn about educational and training opportunities that exist by touring the University of Regina, the First Nations University of Canada, Government House, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and the RCMP Training Academy.

They will learn about government and the legislative process by touring their Legislative Building, taking part in a mock parliament and attending Question Period.  Students will also have the opportunity to meet the Lieutenant Governor, Ministers, their MLAs and public servants to learn about opportunities that exist in the public service.

The Provincial Capital Commission hosts the Youth Mentorship Program with sponsorship from the Ministry of Education and the Government House Foundation.  This program has been running annually since 2010.
