Saskwater Encourages Water Conservation on World Water Day and Every Day

To celebrate World Water Day 2014 on Saturday, March 22, SaskWater encourages people and communities across Saskatchewan to make simple and easy water conservation practices a part of their daily routine. 

“It is so important for the people of Saskatchewan to understand the true value of water and not take access to safe, reliable drinking water for granted,” Minister responsible for SaskWater Ken Cheveldayoff said.  “Celebrating World Water Day allows us to recognize how fortunate we are in our province and highlight the positive effects water conservation practices can have here in our province and around the world every day.”

World Water Day is an international day of observance which grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.  In 1993, the United Nations designated March 22 as the first World Water Day.  World Water Day events and activities are intended to acknowledge the value of water and humanity’s need to conserve it.

SaskWater knows that without safe, reliable water services, communities and people cannot survive.  The goal is to help Saskatchewan’s residents understand the true value of water as a part of SaskWater's commitment to ensure that high quality water continues to flow today and well into the future.
