Released on March 11, 2014
Campsite reservations for Saskatchewan’s Provincial Parks launched on Monday, March 3. That morning, due to a technical error, some credit cards were incorrectly charged.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty said. “We are doing everything we can to correct this issue. Our provincial park visitors are important to us, and we recognize that these incorrect charges have been an inconvenience to our customers. In addition to refunding the charges, we will be mailing cheques for $100 to those credit card holders who were over charged.”
Camis, the campsite reservation system service provider, has been receiving calls from some of the 950 card holders and is actively trying to contact the remainder who were incorrectly charged. So far they have been able to connect with approximately half of them. The ministry is asking that everyone who made a reservation last week check their credit card statements to ensure the charges match their booking.
This is particularly important for anyone who made a reservation on Monday, March 3 between 7 and 11 am. If the customer notices a discrepancy, they should contact the Reservation Call Centre at 1-855-737-7275 (press 2).
The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport continues to work with its service provider to process refunds. In addition, all affected cardholders will receive a cheque for $100 to use on their summer vacation.
The government will also be working with its service providers to ensure this does not happen again and to make the 2015 campsite launch smoother.
