The Ministry of Government Relations announced today that the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) call centre will be staffed during the July 1st holiday due to the flooding situation in South East Saskatchewan.
“PDAP is ready to assist residents and communities who need help. People with property damage should contact their municipality as soon as possible," said Jim Reiter, Minister of Government Relations. "And remember it’s important to start itemizing flood-damaged property and make sure you take photographs.”
The call centre is currently open and operating from 8AM-5PM to provide information, support and advice to municipalities, homeowners and businesses who have suffered property damage from flash floods.
Several municipalities have declared a local state of emergency over the weekend, and there have been reports of localized flooding affecting homes, businesses and farms.
Local municipal authorities will serve as the access point for residents and businesses seeking aid from PDAP. The community must first apply to be designated as a disaster area before individual private claims can be submitted. It should be noted that this is separate from a declaration of a state of emergency.
Homeowners may be eligible for up to $240,000 in compensation. They may also be eligible for up to $30,000 or 6 months of temporary relocation expenses.
Small businesses, agricultural operations and nonprofit organizations may be eligible for up to $500,000.
The program covers damages to uninsurable property. Eligible claims can include clean-up costs, the replacement of essential household items, structural repair and restoration, and preventative measures taken during a disaster.
“Personal safety is our top priority and anyone experiencing a direct threat to their personal safety, from flood waters, should contact 9-1-1 immediately,” said Jim Reiter, Minister of Government Relations.
