Celebrate Canada Day in Regina

Released on June 27, 2014

Everyone in Saskatchewan’s capital city is invited to join the Canada Day celebrations happening at Wascana Park and Government House on Tuesday, July 1.

“Canada Day gives our residents - humble as Saskatchewanians and Canadians are - a chance to display pride for our country,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Mark Docherty said.  “I encourage Regina’s residents, visitors and new Canadians to join together at Wascana Park or Government House to help celebrate living, working and playing in Saskatchewan and Canada.”

The Wascana Park opening ceremonies, featuring a 21 gun salute, kick off the all-day celebrations at noon on the main stage across from the Legislative Building.

Throughout the day, Wascana Park visitors can watch dog shows and volleyball games, ride in a dragon boat, watch some of Saskatchewan’s strongest men pull trucks and flip tires during Western Canada’s Strongman Competition, have their faces painted, experience live music, or just relax with a cold beverage.

Fireworks start at 10:30 p.m. or later depending on weather and the sunset.  Anywhere along the lakeshore is a great spot to watch, since fireworks are set off from Willow Island in Wascana Park.  For more information regarding Regina’s Canada Day celebrations, see the attached map, or visit www.reginacanadaday.ca.

Guests looking for a multicultural experience can visit Government House for the Lieutenant Governor’s Garden Party.  The party runs from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., with a formal program at 2 p.m. that will include greetings from Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield.  Visitors can sample complimentary refreshments, tour Government House and enjoy live music provided by Brad Johner and the Johner Boys.  For more information and to view photos of previous garden parties, visit http://ltgov.sk.ca/news-and-events/garden-party.
