Join in the celebrations on June 21 as Canadians recognize the outstanding achievements of First Nations, Métis and Inuit of our land. Here at home, they have helped build and shape Saskatchewan and have enriched our province in so many ways.
“National Aboriginal Day is more than just a celebration of the province’s native heritage,” Government Relations Minister and Minister responsible for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs Jim Reiter said. “It’s about diverse communities coming together to share in Aboriginal culture and to build a stronger, brighter future.”
Traditionally, National Aboriginal Day is marked on the first day of summer, June 21, the longest day of the year and the summer solstice. The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to support National Aboriginal Day celebrations across the province and encourages everyone to participate in the many events taking place this weekend including native dance, jigging competitions, food, and traditional native dress.
First proclaimed in 1996, National Aboriginal Day honours the culture of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit people across Canada.
