G and B Sewer Services Ltd., of Regina, pleaded guilty to one count under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $5,600 in Regina Provincial Court on June 12, 2014.
The company pleaded guilty to:
- contravening section 263 of the regulations (failure to ensure that a worker present in a trench more than 1.2 metres deep is protected from cave-ins or sliding materials) and was fined $4,000 with a $1,600 surcharge.
The charge relates to an inspection at a worksite in Regina on November 15, 2012, where an Occupational Health Officer observed workers in a trench that was not protected from cave-ins. Two additional charges were stayed.
Since April 1, 2014, there have been 25 convictions for occupational health and safety violations in Saskatchewan with total fines of nearly $122,000.
