Government Invests in Canada’s Farm Progress Show

Released on June 17, 2014

Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart announced a new five-year funding agreement that will provide Canada’s Farm Progress Show with $125,000 in sponsorship from 2014-18.

“Canada’s Farm Progress Show is known around the world as a forum to showcase excellence in agricultural innovation,” Stewart said.  “We are proud to support this show where producers can learn about the latest in agricultural equipment, technology, services and farming practices.”

The Ministry of Agriculture has been a long-time supporter of Canada’s Farm Progress Show.  The new agreement provides Canada’s Farm Progress Show with $25,000 annually, starting with the 2014 show.  Under the previous agreement, the ministry provided $20,000 annually from 2009-13.

“The new funding agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture allows us to look to the future of Canada’s Farm Progress Show,” Canada’s Farm Progress Show Chair René Carpentier said.  “Our industry is constantly evolving and improving, so it’s important that we too remain on the cutting edge.”

Canada’s Farm Progress Show attracts more than 45,000 visitors from across Canada and around the world.  This year, 800 delegates from 57 countries are expected to attend.

The show generates sales of more than $500 million of farm machinery and products annually, representing a key forum for international buyers to meet face-to-face with Saskatchewan farmers, ranchers and equipment manufacturers.

Through the International Business Centre, the show directly connects trade delegations with exporters in one marketplace to facilitate networking, relationship development and cross-sector learning.
